EAST COAST RAILWAY
INLAND ROUTE UNSUITABLE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Gisborne, May 31. Holding that the inland route would be too costly In the first place and that the cost of maintenance would be increased out of proportion to the additional revenue which might be expected, the Minister of .Railways has definitely decided to abandon any intention which formerly existed of carrying the railway from Wairoa to Gisborne via Hangaroa. Advice to this effect has been received by the Gisborne Chamber cf Commerce.
