NURSERYMEN CONFER

“EAT NEW ZEALAND FRUIT.” By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Jan. 7. At the final session of the annual conference of the New Zealand Nurserymen’s Association, Mr. C. Ah Chee, an Auckland retail fruiterer, spoke on the value of advertising. Mr. H. S. Izard (Auckland branch) said it was necessary to reduce the varieties of fruit, as a good deal of the fruit sent to London was rubbish. Mr. W. H. Rice, Government orchard instructor, also spoke in support of standardisation. He said the meeting was the first he had known where the orchardist, grower and retailer had gathered together, which was something on which Ah Chee could be congratulated. He suggested that in future standardisation discussions the retailers’ viewpoint should be ascertained. He believed in a “more fruit” campaign, but thought it would be more effective if known as “eat more New Zealand fruit, thus educating the consumers to give the preference to their own goods.
