FIREMAN FALLS FROM ENGINE
HEAD INJURIES SUSTAINED. By Telegraph.—Prc«s Association. Christchurch, Jan. 0. When the New Brighton Fire Brigade, which attended a fire last night, stopped at the water plug, it was found that one member of the engine crew, named W. H. Tooley, was missing. A motorist who, attracted by the blaze, was proceeding to the fire, found the fireman unconscious on the road. It appears that as the engine was nearing the water plug, Tooley lifted a reel of hose, intending to drop it on the ground ready for running out. In doing bo he fell, but the fall was unnoticed by the other members of the engine crew and the engine did not stop. Tooley suffered injuries to his head and back. The fire was at Palmer’s Road, North Beach, an unoccupied house belonging to Mr. F. Peters being destroyed.
