VOLUNTEER BUTCHERS
POSITION AT WAINGAWA. By Telegraph.—Preea Association. Masterton, Last Night. The slaughter-board at the Waingawa freezing works was manned to-day by 18 volunteer butchers. All the slaughtermen who were paid off yesterday reported for work this morning, with the offer of resumption on condition that a number of men, said to be listed as ineligible for re-employment, were taken on. The terms were apparently unacceptable, as the men all returned to town. The union has so far taken no part in the dispute, which will evidently be confined to the slaughtermen, as all the other departments are proceeding under normal conditions.
