MURIEL STARR
FAREWELL PERFORMANCE. Bidding goodbye to New Plymouth, after a six-night season, with probably the., best and moot, popular drama produced by her company, Miss Muriel Starr appeared in “Within the Law 1 ' as her farewell performance at the Opera House last night. “Within the Law,” has for its theme the rank injustice allegedly possible under the administration of American law. The wrongfill imprisonment of a girl for three years for a crime she did not commit, the girl’s resolution to exact full retribution for her suffering from the wealthy business man who was chiefly responsible for her imprisonment, and the clever manner in which she carried out this resolve, always keeping so cunningly “within the law” that not even the third degree and other doubtful methods practised by the police department could again secure her arrest and punishment formed the background for erectional acting of rare quality. Ae Mary Turner, the girl who was wronged but ultimately reaped the reward which her just character deserved, Miss Starr made full use of the opportunities offered, and met with an enthusiastic reception. No less popular because of hie convincing acting was Mr. Harvey Adams, who gave a splendid portrayal of Joe Garson, a forger who finally turned up trumps.
