On December 17 one of the most successful concerts ever held in the school was performed by the children and other outside talent. The children, who were trained by their teacher (and great credit is due to him for the manner in which ho had worked the children up to take their various parts), did very well indeed. The programme was as follows: A Cantata. “The Magic Wood.” school children; recitation, Miss Beulah George; recitation, three senior pupils; song, school children; recitation, Master A. Lambert; song, school children; recitation, Master Murray i<eorge; song, Mrs. J. Drummond: Highland dancing, Miss Jean Macßae, of Inglewood; song, Ml. Dugald Paterson; duet, Miss B. George and Mr. M. Knox; humorous dialogue, comedy company; comic songs, Mr. William Drake; duet, Mrs. J. Drummond and Mr. Dugald Paterson; dancing, Miss Macßae and a special item by Mr. Rod Macßae, of Inglewood. After the concert the school was cleared for dancing to music by Mr. William Drake, extras being played by Miss Tui Macßae and Mrs. 8. George. Miss Paterson played- accompaniments for the adults, while Mrs. 8. George played for the children’s parts. Miss Tui Macßae played for her sister’s dancing. Mr. 8. George acted as M.C. A bounteous supper was handed round during the evening. Special thanks are due to Mr. S. Drake, who was kind enough to bring the greenery along in liia lorry for decorating the. stage.
Mr. R. Lambert spent Christmas week with his people in this district. Mr. Ruth George has gone to Tuna for an indefinite period. Mr. and Mrs. Higgins spent Christmas and New Year in New Plymouth with Mr. Higgins’ people. Miss Noelle George is spending a holiday with her auntie, Mrs. H. George. Mr. D. Winfield is spending a week or two in New Plymouth during the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Dave Burr are spending a holiday at Pungareliu with Mr. and Mrs. Cosbrook.
Miss Ethel Askew, who has been spending a few days with her mother and father in this district, has returned to Okoke.
Misses Jean and Tui Macßae were the guests of Mrs. S. George last week. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Vickery (Tikorangi) were the guests of Mrs. It. G. Mackie during Christmas. Owing to Mr. Higgins attending the refresher course in the first’ week of February, the local school will not reopen till February 7. Miss Phyllis Lambert and Master Robbie Simmons were sucoessiul in gaining their proficiency certificates.
