FATAL BOATING ACCIDENT
A STUDENT DROWNED. By Telegraph—Preu Auoclztioa. Auckland, Jan. 3. A boy named Philip Clyde Ballantyne, only son of C. M. Ballantyne, of Te Kauwhata, was drowned in Lake Waikare yesterday. He was in a flat-bot-tomed boat with Messrs. Hatfield, Minns and Ramsay following a model yacht, when the boat capsized. Ramsay and Minns supported Ballantyne, w’ho could not swim, until Ramsay had himself to struggle ashore. Minns and the boy both sank. The former rose to the surface, but the boy did not, and his body has not yet been recovered. Deceased was a college student who was spending a holiday with his parents.
