TWO GIRLS DROWNED
TRAGEDY AT TAUMARDNCT. Bj TtJegrax®.—-Press Association. Taumarunui,. Last Night. : A gloom was eas£ over the town wheq it was known that two sisters, Mavis and Thyra Dette, aged twelve and fourteen respectively, were drowned at the Victory Bridge over tho Wanganui River, A large party of children were bathing and all left the water except Mavis Dette, who was observed to be tn difficulties. Her sister Thyra attempted to rescue her but both went under and were drowned, Thyra’s body, was recovered quickly by a young naan, William Capper, who was called to the scene, but life was extinct. Later the body of Mavis was recovered.
