Flight Commander Courtney is plan-' ning a lightning flight to New Zealand by means Of non-stop flights of 1200 miles day and night, using a large multi-engined flying boat. The scheme is still immature. Flight Commander Courtney proposes to reach New Zealand in seven days at a speed of 100 miles an hour. lie was rejected when he attempted to join the Air Force in war time because he wore glasses and was therefore valueless as a pilot. He enlisted as a mechanic and returned from France with the rank of Flight Commander. It was stated last October that FlightCaptain Courtney was about to test a gigantic flying boat with three engines on the lines of a super-marine Napier. It contained living rooms, hammocks and a kitchen. It was to be particularly adapted for long distance flights.
