INDIAN LEGISLATURE
NEW ASSEMBLY ELECTED.
Calcutta, Dee. 8. Now that the elections for the AllIndia Legislative Assembly aro practically completed, it is clear that tho representation of the Swarajists is distinctly weaker than was tho case in tho old Assembly. They have done particularly badly in tho Punjab and the United Provinces, but scored some successes in Madras.
In the Assembly the Swarajists aro hardly likely to form more than 25 per cent, of the whole. In Madras the Independents have formed a Ministry, No news has yet been received from Bengal, where the anti-Swarajist parties could easily form a Government, were they not torn by factions.
Although tho Government position in the All-India Assembly is likely to be easier, it must not be forgotten that big political issues, like that of the currency, are matters on which there is little difference of opinion between ili4 Swarajists and the Independents.
