CRICKET
YOUTH V. EXPERIENCE. ROTARIANS BEAT WESTOWN. Carrying out one of the aims of Rotary to the letter, namely that of setting out to know one’s neighbour better by the exchange of companionship both socially and in sport, eleven members of the New Plymouth Rotary Club engaged in combat on the cricket field yestepday with a team of boys from the Westown School. Some time ago the Rotary Club gave material assistance in obtaining cricket equipment for the school, and yesterday’s match was the result of a challenge issued to the club by the boys. Experience triumphed as a result of the meeting, the Rotarians (Stainton 31) making 52 runs to the boys 41. G. H. Saunders and W. H. Moyes bowled unchanged through Westown’s first innings, securing flattering averages. For the boys McClune and Bedford did the damage. Westown were given a second strike, which realised 103, McQlun-e batting spendidly for 49 while Thomson made 16 and Bedford 10. G. H. Saunders and W. W. Stephenson shared the bowling honours. At 4 p.m. the players adjourned to the tea kiosk in Pukekura Park, where the school boys were the guests of the elder men. TEAMS FOR SATURDAY.
