KAIMIRO CARNIVAL

THE CROWNING CEREMONY. During the past four weeks a carnival queen competition organised by the school committee has been running in the Kaimiro district. The district was divided into two wards, namely, Egmont Road, with Miss Jean Coldrick as its elect, and Lepper Road, represented by Miss Eileen Zimmerman. Tbe object was to raise funds to build a summer-house in which the school children will have an organised lunch. Both committees set to work in real earnest, their combined efforts realising the splendid sum of £132 9s 6d, £B2 2s of this being raised by Egmont Road and £5O 7s 6d by Lepper Road. The hall was crowded to overflowing last night when the final crowning ceremony took place. The whole ceremony had been splendidly organised by Mrs. Whittaker, the head teacher, and all the children took part; in faet, they carried out tlic entire function without a hitcb, a very creditable performance reflecting great credit on them and their training. Mr. Stuart, the chairman of the Ingle-* wood County Council, after apologising for the unavoidable absence of Mr. E. Walter, M.P., congratulated tin- committee and the district on the fine sum raised. He referred to the inipoi'i::i>ce to the district of the proposed tar-sealing of the mountain track. He also assured those present that the Bedford Road would be bridged and metalled right through. The prizes for the year were then presented by Mr. Stewart, each child receiving one. Attendance certificates were awarded as follows: Eileen Zimmerman, 2 years; Jack Irvine, 1 year; Ted Whittaker, 2 years; Clarence Shoemark, 1 year; Maisic Irvine, 2 years; Jean Gibson, 3 years; Sydney Gibson, 3 years; Alan Patterson, 1 year; Hugh Patterson, 1 year; Ray Mundt, 1 year. Special mention was made in the case of Kcitha Patterson, who had attended without one day’s absence for the last five years. This pupil was presented with a small silver cup by the committee to commemorate the record. Tile hall, which had been decorated by Mesdames J. Patterson, F. Mundt, Potroz and Mr. R. Ayling, looked very gny with its many flags and native ferns. Supper was served at about 11 o'clock and dancing went on until about 2 am. The whole function was well managed, and all did their full share of the work, but special mention of Messrs. Mundt (chairman), Judson (hon. secretary) and Scott (M.C.) would not l>e out of place.
