HARBOUR BOARD MEETS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, Dee. 13. The monthly meeting of the Waitara Harbour Board was held on Friday evening last, Mr. Jas. Hine (chairman! presiding. Prior to taking the business the chairman introduced the board's new secretary, Captain T. J. Woods. He considered the board had made a fortunate choice in view of the captain’s high credentials and his successful career both in the Mercantile Marine and the Navy. Captain Woods briefly returned thanks. The chairman reported having made an inspection of the board’s shed and. having found that repairs coufld be carried out at a low cost, had given instructions for the work to be done. Formal authorisation was given to tlq) chairman, treasurer and secretary to operate upon the board's account at the Bank of New Zealand. Sub-lease of section 5, blk. 97, Queen Street, by Mr. C.' R. Stead to Mr. D. Butchart was granted, subject to the lease being in order. The chairman reported that the stone work at the south wall was being proceeded with, delivery of stone having been arranged at 10s per yard. Instruction is to be given Mr. Sarten to reduce the size of the wall. It was agreed to have the drains and sump at the residence of the pilot attended to; the teiMer of Mr. E. Wright being accepted for the work. No reply having been received from the Public Works Department regarding a subsidy for river erosion, it was decided to write the member of the district on the matter.

Captain Jensen stated that preliminary arrangements had been made by Mr. Henderson for a diver to inspect the bridge. It was decided to write a letter of appreciation to Mr. Henderson for his work on the south wall, and to thank Messrs. L. H. Sampson and W. Laing (temporary secretary and pilot respectively) for their services. Only one tender was received for beach shingle rights, viz., £l2 10s and £lO 10s for the eastern and western beaches, respectively. It was decided not to accept the low tender, and that the board undertake to collect a royaly on all shingle taken from the beaches. The chairman remarked that he thought a man could be got on commission to

collect the royalty on behalf of the board. GENERAL ITEMS. The' funeral of the late Mr. J. H. Ohlsen took place at the 'Waitara cemetery on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Ohlsen had been a sufferer for some time, and sympathy for the relatives left behind is extended from the people of Waitara. The service at the house and at the graveside was conducted bv the Rev. It. B. Gosnell. The New Plymouth Regimental Band cricket team visited Waitara on Saturday to play a match with Waitara. As well as bringing their bats, they brought their band instruments, and 'gave the publie a few selections during the afternoon, which were much appreciated.
