STEAMER STRIKES LAUNCH

COLLISION AT AUCKLAND. PASSENGERS’ NARROW ESCAPE. (By Wire—Special to News.) Auckland, Last Night. The vehicular ferry steamer Mollyhawk and the motor launch Centaur collided off the Princes Wharf shortly after ten o’clock this morning. Fortunately before the impact occurred the Mollyhawk was nearly stopped, but the launch was caught by the steamer’s stem and sustained damages to the port belting and also strained her hull. The launch contained about a dozen passengers who were considerably frightened. One of them, William Atford, aged 78, was taken to the hospital suffering from slight injuries to his back, while a young woman climbed on to the Mollyhawk’s deck and fainted.
