WAITARA NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) St. Johns Hall was packed on Mondaynight,' the occasion being the Salvation Army’s Anniversary. Staff-Captain Perry of Palmerston North occupied the chair, and an excellent and vaired programme of musical and vocal items was given by the children. The number of items given, and the names of the performers -would be too lengthy for these columns, but each item was well received and applauded, threat credit is due to Lieut. Anight for the childrens training and to Mrs. Burrows who worked untiringly at the practices and presided at the piano at the performance. During the evening the prizes awarded for the year were presented. . The annual meeting of the W.C.T.U. held in Knox Church on Friday evening last was well attended. The New Plyifiouth Seamens Rest Committee acknowledged with thanks a donation of £5 12s Od, which had been the result of a “bring and buy” afternoon. The report and balance sheet, which showed that good work, had been done during the year, was considered very satisfactory. ‘ All the outgoing officers were re-elected and it was decided to go into recess until February next. After routine business was concluded, a social hour was spent, to the enjoyment of those present. ROSE SHOW. Tomorrow (Thursday) will see the opening of the sth Annual Rose Show (under the auspices of St. John Church). The weather having put on its summer mantle should be an incentive for a record crowd. Entries have been numerous in all classes and a splended flower display is anticipated. There will be as usual, stalls of a various assortment of goods for disposal, whilst afternoon tea will be dispensed. The show will conclude on Friday night.
