ENTERTAINMENTS.

EVERYBODY’S. PICTURES—MAGIC— M YSTERY. Israel Zangwill has scored again. The film version of his stage, hit, “Too Much Money,” has proved to be one of the season’s sensations. Mainly responsible for the success of the Zangwill piece is the superlative acting of Anna Q. Nilsson and Lewis Stone, the featured players. The theme of the picture is the burden of riches. Loaded down with excessive wealth, Lewis Stone, as the husband, is miles removed from the company of his wife, whom he ardently loves. To win her back he pretends to be ruined. In this picture Stone reveals himself as a comedian. He produces most of the laughs of the picture and most of them while he is attired in his janitor’s costume. He even boards an oeean liner in this outfit and. starts for Europe with no wardrobe except his overalls and -a brown derby. A pleasing addition to a full picture programme is the special engagement of the wonderful Chinese magician and cartoonist, Chun Yuen Tai, who presents a pleasingly novel and original series of unique mystery tricks, and an amazingly clever selection of cartoon sketches. This talented artist has played to crowded houses during a tour of New Zealand and patrons of Everybody’s will be charmed with hie cleverness and dexterity.

THE PEOPLE’S. “A BROADWAY BUTTERFLY.” Broadway, in all its artificiality and fascinating glamour, is the theme of “A Broadway Butterfly,” the new Master picture which will begin a week’s showing at the People's Theatre. The story concerns itself with the adventures of country-bred Irene Astaire, who is determined to dance her way to fame on Broadway. She is engaged as a chorus girl and her shy, naivete soon proves a strong lure for men about town, who shower her with flowers and unwelcome attentions. Poor little Irene soon becomes involved in a seemingly hopeless mix up with two men, and oi through the efforts of another show girl does the whole tangle become unravelled. The cast chosen by Warner Bros, makes “A Broadway Butterfly” an absorbing picture of real Broadway. Louise Fazenda, Williard Louis, Dorothy Devore, Cullen Landis, Lilyan Tashman, John Roche, Wilfred Lucas and Eugenie Gilbert constitute the imposing line up of players to enact “A Broadway Butterfly.” A good list of short films and a Richmount comedy are also on this new- programme.
