ST. QUENTIN ANNIVERSARY.
MEMORIAL SERVICE IN FRANCE. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Sept. 9. At Mr. Bruce’s request a commemoration service was held at St. Quentin on the anniversary of the battle in which the Second Australian Division participated. Major Phillips, representing Australia, was met by the Mayor and Councillors and attended Mass said by the VicarGeneral at Peronne for the Australian dead. Later a procession was formed. It first laid wreaths on the graves of the French soldiers on behalf of Australia, and then on the Australian memorial. The Mayor of >St. Quentin sent a message to Australia expressing the local inhabitants’ sincere feelings of friendship.
