PROGRESS OF SESSION.
PROBABLE END NEXT WEEK.
LEGISLATION IN PROSPECT.
By Telegraph—Press Association.
Wellington, Last Night. Replying to the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives to-night, the Prime Minister said he proposed to ask the House to complete the following Bills this session: The Main Highways Amendment Bill, Local Government Loans Board Bill, the Education Amendment Bill, the New Zealand Agricultural College Bill, the Westport Harbour Bill and the Pensions Bill. There would also be two Native Bills, and some further amendments to the "Washing-up Bill,” two Banking Bills (Bank of New Zealand and Rural Credits), the Customs Bill, the Motor Omnibus Bill, the Supplementary Estimates and the Appropriation Bill. Ho thought the Supplementary Estimates would come down on Saturday or Monday next. Replying to a question, the Primo Minister said the House would hear more about the Gaming Bill, as he tinderstood the member in charge of the Bill would ask leave of the House to have it read a second time pro forma and referred to the committee.
An hon. member: “And what will happen then ?” The Prime Minister laughingly replied be did not know.
In reply to a further question the Prime Minister said lie would make a statement regarding the Licensing Bill in a day or two. He saw no reason why the session should not close down next Wednesday or Thursday. The banking Bills and the Motor Omnibus Bill might delay them somewhat. They were drafted, but Cabinet had not had time to give them the careful consideration they desired. In reply to some interjections, Mr. Coates said he had no objection whatever to leaving Parliament to complete its work after he sailed for London. He had every confidence in his colleagues and supporters, but for all that he had a shrewd suspicion that there was a feeling on all sides that the session should close down as early as possible.
