THE LICENSING BILL.

POSSIBLE POSTPONEMENT.

QUESTIONS IN THE HOUSE.

PRIME MINISTER ENIGMATIC.

(By Wire—Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, Last Night.

‘‘When do you propose to take the Licencing Bill?” Mr. Holland asked the Prime Minister in the House this morning-

Mr. Coates: “I hope to make a statement in the course of a day or two to indicate the day it will be taken.” Mr. Atmore: “Which week?”

Mr. Coates: “I propose to make aSt atement indicating the day, the week, or the year. (Laughter). A number of members have spoken to me about it and some of them think there is not time to give it proper consideration this session. I have not consulted my colleagues about it yet.” Though the Prime Minister’s statement may be open to more constructions than one, an inference which will be drawn from it is that there is a possibility of the second reading debate, which was expected this week, not being heard of this session.
