The Marton spring meeting concluded in. fine weather. The track was still deadj but the racing was of a high order and the winners were well concealed. The Taranaki horse Captain Gazeley won the Heaton Park Handicap in great style. The feature of the day was the brilliant win by Beaumont in the Telegraph Handicap, There were no defections for the Noviee Stakes, and a good field of twelve faced the barrier. Schorr was made a warm order, with a strong following for Petal, Royal Time and Taktlroa. Takaroa was the first out from a good start ahead of Propeller and Alloway. On going a furlong Schorr was making play from Alloway, Bissac and Propellor, but on the bend Alloway headed Schorr, with Whititaua, Dominion Rose. Takaroa and Petal lying handy. Alloway was first into “ the straight from Schorr, Dominion Rose, Takaroa, Royal Time and Petal. In the run home the Wanganui gelding hung on long enough to stall off challenges by Schorr and Whititaua and won by half a length from Schorr, with Royal Time, who put in a strong finishing run, three lengths away third. Then came Whititaua, Takaroa, Dominion Rose, and Petal. RANGI SARTO WINS IN CANTER. Tame Fox was the only withdrawal from the Second Hack Hurdles, and the public were uncertain whether to make ' Rang! Sarto or Hokioi favourite, but the former wound up £l7 better hacked, with Revel, Gauntlet and Axle fancied in that order. Diamond Ring was the first to take the lead, followed by Arrow River, Revel, Hokioi and Gauntlet, Axle was first over the initial obstacle in front of Arrow River, Hokioi, Gauntlet, Revel and Arch Salute. Except that Rangi Sarto had moved up to fifth i there was no change going out of the straight. Along the back stretch Axle and Hokioi were together, followed by Rangi Sarto, Arch Salute, Arrow River, Revel and Gauntlet. On the home bend Hokioi had assumed the lead and Axle retired, but Rangi Sarto, nicely handled by Alan McDonald, was first over the final hurdle and cantered in to win by three lengths from the Aucklander, with Arch Salute one and a half lengths back. Then came Revel, Axle, Gauntlet, Diamond Ring and Arrow River, with Lady Ben whipping the field.

WAIROSLA TO AN OUTSIDER. Royal Time was scratched for the Wairoma Hack Handicap, and the northern representative, Gay Comet, was installed a good favourite, with solid support for Royal Land, Hypnotic and Hymill. The public were astray in their fancy, and the winner turned up in a rank outsider, Royal Game. From a good start Royal Game was first to show out from Hymill, Royal Land, Empire Camp and Gay Comet. At the half-mile Royal Game was making play from -Royal Land, Gay Comet, Hypnotic, Hymill and Empire Camp. Royal Game entered the straight two lengths ahead of Royal Land and, well handled by V. Carroil, stayed on to win by two lengths from Royal Land, with Hymill another two lengths away, followed by Gay Comet, Empire Camp and Hypnotie. CAPTAIN GAZELEY WINS WELL. The withdrawal of Rahepoto and Alyson in the Heaton Park Handicap left a good field of eleven to face the barrier. C. O’Connor effected a good start, and the field came up the straight in line, the first to break away being Miss Hupana. On the bend Miss Hupana was leading Olympic, Kilfaire, Euphonium, Tame Fox, Gold Jacket and De Luxe, with the latter moving through the field. Entering the back stretch .Miss Hupana and Olympic were leading Kilfaire, Tame Fox, Gold Jacket, De Luxe, Euphonium and Novar. Miss Hupana got into trouble on the home bend and dropped back, Olympic, and Tame Fox showing the way to Captain Gazeley, Alarie and Euphonium. Captain Gazeley was actually first into the straight from Tame Fox, Olympic, Euphonium, Alarie, Novar and Kilfaire. The diminutive T. Tito rode Captain Gazeley full out to the judge, and although Tame Fox challenged inside the distance, the son of Gazeley went on to win by a length from Tame Fox, with Kilfaire, who was poorly ridden, a length back. Euphonium was the next to cross the line, followed by Olympic, Novar and. Alarie. Captain Gazeley was always well placed, and the Taranaki horse responded to the whip at the finish. Tame Fox ran a genuine race, but tired over the last bit. Kilfairo was well placed until the bend, where he lost his position, but he came with a rattle over the last bit. Euphonium stayed on well but appears to be not quite forward enough. A BRILLIANT EXHIBITION. Little River dropped out of the Hack Steeples and left a poor field of four to contest for the honours. Labour Morn gave a brilliant exhibition of jumping, and never left the issue in doubt. Santiago jumped well, but the big fences took all the sting out of him at the finish. Woden was rushed to the front at the start from Labour Morn, Uncle Dave and Santiago. Woden and Labour Morn were together about three lengths ahead of Santiago and Uncla Dave along the back, and Labour Morn and Woden jumped the fence at the bottom of the straight together. Labour Morn was first over the double from Woden and Santiago. Woden dropped back and Labour Morn put a break of five lengths on Santiago and Uncle Dave. Over the last obstacle Labour Morn was two lengths ahead of Santiago, with Woden eighty yards behind. Labour Morn won easily by three lengths from Santiago. Uncle Dave was ten lengths back, Then came Woden. BRACELET TO KOAUAU. The amateur jocksters were seen out in the Ladies’ Bracelet, and ail saddled up for the event. Koauau was accorded, most support, with Mountain Jean, Birthmark and Brigadier Bill fancied in that order. Mount Clyde was first to show out from Birthmark, Brigadier Bill and Jackaroo. On the bend Mount Clyde was leading Birthmark, Atene, Jackaroo, Ayun Kara, Brigadier Bill-and Arch Salute. On the home bend Mount Clyde and Ayun Kara were together, and Ayun Kara led into the straight from Birthmark, Mount Clyde, Koauau, Arch Salute and Mountain Jean. At the distance Koauau had headed Ayun Kara and went on to win easily by six lengths from Birthmark, who was a length ahead of Ayun Kara. Then came Mountain Jean, Brigadier Bill, Mount Clyde and Arch Salute. Koauau, who had the services of Mr. J. Morris, was the best handled and came through at the right place to win on the bit. The president, Mr. R. E. Beckett, in presenting Mr. J. B. Gaisford with a silver tea set, stated that this was the first lime the club. had ma.de the Ladies’ Bracelet an open event. BEAUMONT’S GREAT FEAT. The scratching of Grand Knight and Archeen left a one dividend field in the Telegraph, and the publyic made Mireusonta a warm order, with Blaek Cat., Beaumont and Lady Desmond fancied in that order. Lady Desmond was fractious at the post, but a good start was effected and Mireusorita was first tobreak the line, with Lady Desmond, Black Cat and Bonideer next, and Beaumont gradually tailing the field. At the home turn Mireusonta still led Lady Desmond, with Bonideer and. Black Cat next and Beaumont a dozen lengths in the rear. On entering the straight Beaumont made a paralysing run and was with Lady Deemond and Black Cat when they straightened out. The Boniform gelding withstood the challenges from Lady Desmond and Black Cat and finished well to win by a length from Lady Desmond, with Black Cat a similar distance bark ahead of Bonideer and the favourite, who was beaten at the bottom of the straight, a bad last. Beaumont’s win was well deserved, as he had to come right round the field after standing them up a dozen lengths at the turn. FINAL EVENT TO ELYSTANOR. Captain Gazeley and Gay Comet were withdrawn from the Farewell Hack, and the public entrusted Rahepoto with most support, with Hynanna, Inner Harbour and Blysianor next fancied. Hathor was first out from Inner Harbour, Hynanna, Elysianor and Rahepoto. On the bend Inner Harbour was leading Hathor, Elysianor, Hynanna and Lady Comet, with Hie favourite second to last. Hathor was first into the straight from Inner Harbour, Hynanna and Elysianor, with Rahepoto coming fast. Elysianor took the lead at the distance and won by half a length from the fast finishing Rahepoto, who was a head in front of Hathor, and close up were Hynanna, Plain Pearl, Mister Gamp, Inner Harbour, Panart and Lady Comet.
