Singleton Gates, in an article iij the Daily Sketch, asserts that the etory of the discovery of Kitchener’e body in Norway was invented in November, 1921, in the presence of Arthur Vectiß, otherwise Frank Power. The' reason was that a film entitled “How Kitchener Was Betrayed,” which had been shown privately to Lords. and Commoners, badly needed publicity. The private display had caused consternation among the audience. One of Kitchener’s sisters declared it was an insult to her ■ brother’s memory, The Press denounced it as an outrage. Power knew that the story was • farce, but took over the.film., The Landon County Council banned it thereafter. In to create . further publicity the story of < the visit to Norway, and the discovery of the body, was suggested. , A subsequent attempt td display tha film under Power’© auspice© resulted in the issue of a Summons against tha kinema proprietors. T)<>cfore, some months ago, Power began a story based on an original fiction in “The Weekly” newspaper." Gates concludes: "These are tha facts. I am prepared to swear to them in a court, of law.”
