DISTRICT NEWS.
FRASER ROAD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) A parents’ day at .school is always popular, and on Friday last, when the Fraser Road school was favoured by a visit from parents and friends, a representative gathering assembled. After inspecting the school plantation of 70 young trees and the tree nursery and noting the proposed improvements to the lay-out of the school grounds, the visitors watched the children at work in school, where an exhibition of handwork gave an idea of the work being done. During the afternoon an appeal for support' towards a school .library was made. Finally, for an hour, the children sang rounds, unison and part songs, an entertainment which was much appreciated. Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Jennings sailed by the Tofua on Saturday for a months tour of the islands. AWATUNA. (From Our Own Correspondent.) At a meeting of the Farmers’ I nion at Te Kiri on August 5 a very interesting debate on the qualities of basic slag versus lime and superphosphate for top-dressing took place. Mr. S. Agnew spoke on Mag and Mr. H. Davison on super and lime. After a full discussion slag came out the winner on the show of hands. At the next meeting another interesting debate will take plaee, the subject. being the best crop suitable for autumn feeding. Mr. M. W. Barker and Mr. A. E. Collins will be the speakers. The usual euchre partv was held on the 13th inst., and a 'very enjoyable evening was spent, Mrs. Woodhead winning the ladies' prize, and Mr. Hodge tlie°gent’s. the booby prizes being won by Miss Graydon and Mr. I - (Sanson. After the euchre the hall was cleared for dancing, the music being supplied bv Mr. McCandish and Miss Corbett,
