The weather was changeable, but the wicket was drying under the influence of a good wind. Andrews again forced the pace, and when the hoard showed 270 he was easily stumped through jumping out to a ball from Cook. He had batted for 225 minutes and hit one six and 17 fours. The bowling was not difficult to deal with. Bardsley played a sound innings. He cut strongly and displayed excellent judgment in timing. He hit five fours. After the early dismissal of Ferens something of a stand was made by Weight and Kineh, the scoring coming mostly off Richardson, until the board showed 32. Then Kineh attempted a drive and was completely beaten by Richardson, who was always difficult to play and was unlucky in not getting more wickets. Carr played dashingly and lashed out at everything. He rattled up his 3f» in ten minutes, including two sixes and three fours and a single off Grimmett in two overs. Finally he was well held by Taylor on the boundary. Weight wrs sound and careful. Macartney was the most successful in the attack. He bowled excellently and varied the balls well. The fielding wars very smart. AUSTRALIAN TEST TEAM. London, June 10. The Australian test team will not be selected until the morning of the match. Gregory is certain to play, notwithstanding rumours to the contrary, owing to an injury to his leg which is insufficient in Itself to preclude his appearance. Bonsford will be a definite absentee. The weather appears likely to join England’s side. Extraordinarily heavy rain during the past 24 hours interfered with cricket all over the country, while the forecast for Saturday indicates showers. The whole of Nottingham is agog with excitement. The entire accommodation. is booked up in the city as well ns in neighbouring, towns. Though the Australians are resting for a day before the test, many of the Englishmen are playing in various centres. The majority are not perturbed at this, regarding a day’s rest as unnecessary. The view is expressed that a break often leads to slackness. Sutcliffe states that he has fully recovered and that he will be able to take his place in the test team.
