ATHLETICS.

RAHOTU SPORTS A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. Cold intermittent showers marred the proceedings at the Rahotu Athletic Club’s annual sports on Wednesday. Despite the weather, it was thought advisable to hold the sports, which, opart from the discomfort, were quite successful. There was a great variety of events, the cycling and chopping being particularly exciting, although the cycling track was slippery and the final of the Rahotu chop took place in the rain. A large number of care brought people from the surrounding district and were invaded for shelter during the showers. The New Plymouth Pipe Band was in attendance, and enlivened the proceedings with the skirl of the pipes. The handicapping, in the capable hands of Mr. Ilansen, was responsible for some exciting finishes, the cycling especially being very closely contested. Th® officials in charge of the sports consisted of the secretary, Mr. G. D. Dawson; timekeeper, Mr. J. Bennett; chopping judges, Messrs. L. Fisher, W. Fleming, and H. G. Clarke; starter, Mr. F.
