NAVAL DESERTERS ESCAPE.

DARING BID FOR LIBERTY. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, May 4. Two naval deserters from the warship Delhi were placed aboard the Marama at Wellington and made a sensational escape as the steamer was passing Miller’s Point. Taking advantage of* the passengers crowding to one side to watch the ferry-boat, the men jumped overboard and swam away. One turned on his back and waved good-bye. It was too dark to see whether they reached shore safely, but presumably they did and escaped the attention of the naval escort awaiting them on the wharf.
