PROHIBITION BENEFITS.

Received April 13, 11.20 p.m, Washington, April 12, The Senate Comrnitteo heard a delegation of sixty-five women from welfare, social and church organisations claiming to represent twelve million women, plead for the retention and enforcement of tho Volstead Act in the name of tho wives and children. The delegates, in one minute speeches, argued that prohibition had the following results, viz., women's homes had been bettered, the men were saving money, and lastly, the school children were better clothed. They said they bore no figures or statistics, only a message from the women of the nation against any modification and for the better enforcement of the law, Mrs. Henry Peabody, chairwoman of the National Committee for Law Enforcement, questioned regarding the section dealing with the enforcement of the Act, said: “I am not acquainted with tha section, with all the responsibilities I have. We stand for the strongest enforcement and the weakest liquor.” The delegates announced the organisation of a campaign of millions of women to bolster prohibition.
