HAWERA TOURNAMENT. (From Our Own Reporter.) Hawera. Dec. 31. The la&t match in the Hawera Tennis Club s Christmas tournament was played this morning, when Mrs. Weston and Mrs. Berg (Stratford) won the ladies championship doubles from Mrs Heald and Mrs. Campbell (Wellington). The two Wellington ladies did nor appear to play up to their usual form although the games were fairly even, Mrs. Weston and Mrs. Berg took the first set 6—3. Mrs. Weston’s service was particularly strong, while Mr?. Campbell countered with a tricky service that always kept low and was difficult to return. Every game in the second set was strenuously disputed, but Mrs. Weston and Mrs. Berg ran out the winners 6 —-3, G—4. The tournament proved a great success financially, the clear profit being about £lOO. and the visitors commented very favourably on the efficiency of the organisation. The weather throuriiotrt the four days was perfect, one result of which was a noticeable economy in balls, only ten and a half dozen being u.-'cd in the tournament.
