BIG PROGRAMME AHEAD. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the executive of the New Plymouth Caledonian Society was held on Monday evening, there being present: Messrs. M. Gray Nasmith (chief), C. McLeod, J. Austin, A. Rankin, N. Cruden, R. Bennoch, L. M. Monteath, J. Finlay, S. G. Smith, M.'P., and A. M. Mac Diarmid (hen. sec.). The secretary reported that the foregathering held last month had been an unqualified success, both socially and financially. It was resolved that hearty thanks be accorded to the artists who provided the vocal items during the evening; the Harbour Board, East End Reserve Committee, and Defence Office for loan of flags and bunting; the Girls’ High School, for the loan of forms-; Mr. C. Arnold, for free carting of material; Messrs. Weir and Shepherd, for gift® of refreshments; Messrs. Bennoch, McGowan and Brabyn, for assistance given with decorations. Votes for thanks were also passed to Messrs. Sole Bros, for haggis material supplied to all the society’s functions, and to the ladies’ committee for their hearty co-operation and assistance at all the functions. The chief reported that matters were in train for the holding of an ingleside by the Hawera Scottish Society in the Workers’ Social Hall on' Monday, October 12, in aid of that society’s band uniform funds. The function is to be held under the auspices of the New Plymouth Caledonian Society. It was resolved that Halloween be celebrated in the Workers’ /Social Hall on November 2, and details were discussed. It was resolved to apply to the Pukekura Park Board and the Sportsground Committee for permission to hold an open-air pipe band concert by the combined New Plymouth, Eltham and Hawera pipe bands on Sunday, November 29. A church parade of the combined bands is to be held on the morning of that date to St. Andrew’s Church. Permission is to be sought from the Borough Council for the pipe band to parade Devon Street on Hogmanay (New Year’s Eve) and take up a collection in aid of the band uniform funds. It was decided to recommend the incoming executive to hold a gathering on New Year’s Day. The annual report and balance-sheet were submitted and approved for adoption to the annual meeting to be held in 'November. Thirty-six new members were elected. Routine business was also transacted.
