A message from Swampscott (Massaohussets) states that Senator Hale, chairman of the Senate Naval Committee, informed President Coolidge to-day that he .believed immediate steps should be taken to establish a strong naval base on the Pacific Coast and strengthen Pearl Harbour, Hawaii, and its defences.
