SENTENCE OF THREE MONTHS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, July 21. In the Supreme Court, John George Burgess, aged 61, a builder, for bigamy was sentenced to three months’ hard labour. The Crown stated that the case had few redeeming features and it was curious that his wife lived only a short distance from where Burgess and tho other woman had lived. RORQUAL~WHALE STRANDED. Auckland, July 21. A rorqual whale between 40 and 50 feet in length is stranded near the mouth of the Tamaki River. The body is scarred, possibly at the result of attacks by swordfish or sharks. It was claimed by two men named Morgan and Bennett. LABOUR AND HOSPITALS. Wellington, July 21. The national executive of the New Zealand Labour Party considered the proposals of. the British Medical Association regarding the establishment of private wards in the public hospitals of the Dominions and decided to oppose them. The party’s policy is to ensure the best medical treatment to all, irrespective of their financial position. TOBACCONISTS’ GRIEVANCES. Nelson, July, 21. The tobacco and cigarette vendors passed a resolution with a view to remedying the abuses of the ISw. The Government was strongly urged to legislate, lecinsing all vendors and giving power to Magistrates to cancel the license® upon conviction for offences regarding sale®, also to provide severer penalties than exist at present.
