ELDERLY MAN’S DEATH. By Telegraph —Press Association. Dunedin, June 22. James McNicol, aged 50, was found m the iSt. Kilda tramway waiting room with a bottle of poison alongside him. He expired on the way to the hospital. MISSING MAN RETURNS. Gisborne, June 22. Mr. William Cottingham, French polisher, who was reported missing on Saturday, turned up on (Sunday at Wafrangaokuri. It is reported that he had lost his memory. He 'has been sent to hospital. DEATH GF A SHUNTER. Dunedin, June 22. At the inquest on Frederick A. J. Benfell, shunter, who was killed at Burnside, the coroner (Mr. Bartholomew, S.M.) commented that the accident was due to an unfortunate combination of circumstances. The points were wrongly set and there was practically no lighting in the yard. The conditions of work were more dangerous than they should have been. He was glad to learn that proper lighting was now being provided.
