At the Government’s request the Chamber, by 525 votes to 32, postponed sine die the Communist demand to interpellate the Government on the situation in Morocco. The Socialists voted with the Government. The Socialists having agreed to interpellate on Morocco next week, the Communists, seeking to force the issue between the Socialists and the Government, gave notice of a proposal to interpellate to-day. They quoted a London telegram saying that Abdel Kriiii. had made peace overtures to France and Spain through England and Italy. M. Briand (Minister for Foreign Affairs), demanding the postponement of the interpellation sine die, declared it was an insult to suppose that if an honourable opportunity for peace were offered the Government would not have listened to it or allowed further bloodshed in Morocco. The vote was taken amid Communist cries of “Murderers,” “Liars,” “Down with War” After a meeting of Cabinet the Foreign Minister stated that the Government had discussed Communist propaganda and had decided on a policy towards the militant section of the Communist Party, which daily was corresponding with Abdel Krim and encouraging him to resist, assuring him that the majority in France was opposed to a continuance of military operations. Le Matin announces that 120 arrests have been made in Parit and the provinces in pursuance of the measures for the suppression of Communist propaganda in regard to Morocco.; The Premier (M. Painleve) will shortly bring up the question in the Chamber of raising Parliamentary immunity in respect to two Communist leaders who are deputies to enable a prosecution. A telegram from Tangier say« thu situation in the western Spanish zone is more serious. Riff contingents are con cent rating at various points’ along the Ceuta-Tetuan-Larache line. j FRANCE PLANS OFFENSIVE. Paris, June 19. M. Painleve (Prime Minister) told a ebimfiittee" of the Chamber that the various Moslem nations were giving Abdel' Krim considerable help in the, shape of fluids. Abdel Krim received a ransom from Spanish prisoners which financed an extensive purchase of arms. Franck was arranging to cut off sea and land co mm unicat ions and launch an offensive on a large scale. Abdel Krim’s speedy surrender l was anticipated. RIFFS FORTIFY COAST. jAindQu, June 19. Abdel Krim, through the Tangier correspondent of The Times, announces that the Riff coast is now fortified and orders have been given to fire on any ships near the shore. To avoid incidents with neutral Powers he requests all merchant ships to give th<e/ coast a wide berth.
