AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION. LOCAL BRANCH FORMED. (From Our Own Reporter.) Stratford, June 17. An enthusiastic meeting of forty Stratford motorists decided to-night to form a branch at Stratford of, the South Taranaki Automobile Association. The benefits that would accrue through such a step were outlined by a delegation from Hawera, who were accorded a warm reception, after which the decision was made. The follo'wing officers were elected:— President, Mr. J. W. McMillan (subject to his consent) ; vice-presidents, Messrs A. R. Masters and W. P- Kirkwood (subject to the latter’s consent); committee, Rev. J. L. A. Kayll, Messrs S. Ward, P. Kivell, R. D. Kay, H. Bishop, J. B. Nicholl and D. J. Malone (subject to the latter’s consent). At a subsequent meeting of the committee Mr. A. R. Masters was elected chairman and Mr. A. J. Barr actingsecretary. TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL. A very well attended meeting of the general committee ot the Stratford Technical High School Hostel Fund effort was held yesterday afternoon, Mrs. McMillan (the Mayoress) presiding. Mr. A. H. R. Amess reported on the vanishing teas scheme, and the funds received to date which are sufficient to purchase materials for the coming grand bazaar and sale ot work. A great many of the teas have still to be accounted for, and the scheme will not work out for some time yet. It was decided to push on actively with the preparations for the bazaar, and the date was definitely fixed as Friday and Saturday, August 14 and 15, the function to be in the Town Hall. In reply to questions regarding the proposed conduct of the hostel when established, Mr. Amess said that pupils could be boarded for the whole week at £1 per head. He also mentioned that the establishment of the hostel would give special facilities for the development of the home science instruction in a practical manner, thus adding to the school's value to the community. GENERAL ITEMS. The work ot erecting the poles for the new power transmission lines is going ahead satisfactorily, and is completed to the corner of Miranda and Regan. Streets. The staff oi the electrical department under the electrical engineer (Mr. J. L. Ferguson) are now erecting poles via Regan Street to the new sub-station in Juliet Street, and it is hoped that this will be completed in about three weeks’ time. The low tension lines from the Pembroke Road sub-station are being placed in position along the east side of Broadway. and good progress is being made with this work also. Mr. O. S. Harvey, who has been a member of the staff of the Stratford Magistrate’s Court for the last four years, has been transferred to Timaru. He was farewelled this afternoon and ■presented with a smoker's companion.
