ENTERTAINMENTS.

THE PEOPLE’S. “THREE WOMEN.” “Three Women,” which heads the new programme at the People’s Theatre tonight and to-morrow, shows how good a picture can -be when made under the supervision of a faultless director like Ernst Lubitsch. l\lay McAvoy, Marie Provost and Pauline Frederick share the tri-stellar honours, supported by Lew Cody, Mary Carr, IV mard Lewis and Pierre Gendron. May McAvoy, as the tvife of a tickle husband, plays her part in charming sincerity, while Pauline Frederick, who takes the role as her mother and former sweetheart to her husband, seems to have been made for the part. Marie Provost, as still another sweetheart, is the perfect vampire type. The plot has unusual complications, which ail wind up to a very dramatic climax. The settings in the picture are exceedingly artistic, but nave a simiplicity in their very mas siveness. “'liiree Women” is a perfect combination of unusual plot, excellent acting, and great direction. “Three Vvomen” will oe shown at the usual prices, viz., {Stalls 9d, D.C. is iid.

EVERYBODY’S. "LOVE’S WILDERNESS.” The new programme, commencing a three night season at Everybody’s Theatre this evening, is headed by ‘Loves Wilderness, a First National special feature. This picture presents me lovely Corinne Griiiith in a new role —totally different from that of “Black Oxen” and “Lilies of the Field,” her former successes. She is seen as a young southern maid who runs away with an adventurer to the Canadian forests. Through a series of hardships, with her husband neglecting her, she is married again and is suddenly confront ed with her former husband, whom sho thought was dead. What would u woman do under such circumstances 7 Never before has Corinne essayed a role of this type, and oc-cording to preview critics she has presented nerseif in a new roie winch will surprise her admiiers. The supporting programme is advertised. Box plans are now open al Collier’s.

FAMOUS LADIES’ BAND.

One is oftimes reminded of a famous advertisement of a well-known firm of chocolate makers, showing the various stages of a youngster anticipating the “choc” until the final realisation. The analogy between the youngsteis and our readers is a good one, for they have been going through the various stages, until to-night the realisation will be an accomplished fact. Never before in the history of the world has such a tour been undertaken, and the fact that New Plymouth is included in the itinerary of "the Australian Scottish Lady Pipers’ Band should .make us glad. The programme to be given provides for all tastes, with a natural leaning to the land of the heather. Among its members are champions in winners of prizes in dancing and elocution at the leading competitions of Australia. One could quote at length from Australian papers of t'he wonderful combination now in our midst, but suffice it to say that the Auckland Star and Waikato Times speak in glowing terms of the band’s efforts. The latter says, inter alia, “every item on the programme was encored, and in several instances the performers were twice recalled.” Patrons are requested to be in their seats early. The band will inarch through the main street to the hall at 7.30.
