NO CHANGE TO BE MADE. WHEAT TO BE IMPORTED. . STATEMENT BY MINISTER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Thd lion. W. Nos worthy (Minis ter for Agriculture) stated that he had acted in accordance with his promise to the wheat-growers to withhold the importation of wheat until after the end of June, hi April last the millers had undertaken, stated the Minister, to purchase the whole available wheat in the Dominion of good milling quality before the end of June, and reports from his department dealing with wheat showed that the millers had carried out this undertaking. If any good milling wheat still remains in farmers’ hands after this month, the millers are still willing to purchase It at the arranged prices. The millers had recently urged upon him the necessity of supplementing local supplies by importations from abroad. The Minister added that close investigation into the position showed that ft was essential for some supplies of overseas wheat to be purchased and shipped in July, and as the necessary finance had been forthcoming from the millers to pay for several cargoes, deliveries would be effected during the next month to certain main ports in both the North and iSouth Islands.

Asked as to the effect upon existing prices of flour, bran and pollard, the Minister replied that these would not be increased, nor would bread prices alter, following the arrangement entered into between the wheat-growers, the millers and the Government at the conference held in April last.
