'“OATES” IN TARANAKI. INCREASE OVER LAST YEAR; MORE IN EVERY CENTRE A considerable increase in the gate takings at football matches so far held this season in Taranaki, compared with those of last season, was revealed at the meeting of the management committee of the Taranaki Rugby Union at Stratford last night. The chairman (Mr. Jas. McLeod) reported that for the first six Saturdays of the 1924 season, the takings totalled £4OO, while this year £6BO was taken over the corresponding period. Of this latter amount, New Plymouth contributed £342 against £2ll last year. The figures presented disclosed an increase of about £4O a week over the takings of last year. In every centre bigger gates ‘ were reported, continued Mr. McLeod. He was also pleased to see that play this year was of a higher standard all round.
