POSTAL FACILITIES.

AUROA WANT? SERVICE. (From Our Own Reporter.) Hawera, Last Night. Settlers of Auro a and the surrounding district met to-night to discuss the question of making arrangements for the extension of postal and telephone facilities to the district. Mr. A. C. Johnson presided over a good attendance. Mr. J. E. Ward, postmaster at Manaia, agreed that the existing services were totally inadequate and he would be pleased to give every assistance to bring about better conditions. He explained the rural postal service, and advised the meeting to obtain an estimate of the number of settlers who would support a rural service. A petition, asking for the establishment of a rural service was signed by 18 settlers, and it was decided to canvass the district for further signatures. Regarding telephones, Mr. Ward stated that fifty subscribers were required before a bureau office would be established at Auro a.

It was decided to canvass the district to obtain the necessary number of subscribers.
