A SPLENDID RESULT.

Congratulation® to the Taranaki Agricultural Society upon the success of its winter show, which came to a conclusion last evening. It was a creditable show in every respect, and a marked advance upon any previous endeavour. It only proved what could be done with adequate accommodation backed by organisation and enthusiasm. Previous winter show® have'been “cribbed, cabined and confined” by the limited capacity of the buildings, but, through the society’s enterprise, supported by the Jockey Club, which also required loose-boxes, buildings have been erected which enable an effective show to be staged and arranged. Considerable as the extensions are they proved all too small, and if the accommodation were doubled for next year’s fixture we. doubt not but that gooil use would be found for it. As it is, this week’s show bears favourable comparison with even the Dominion’s largest arid most successful exhibition®, and all concerned in it® success are deserving of the heartiest congratulations. We are inclined to think the business people of the town are not sufficiently appreciative of the fine work the society is doing, and are not giving it the support that is the society’s due. 'Were they to get behind it like the business men of, say, Hawera, Palmerston and Hamilton do in connection with their shows, we have little doubt but that next year’s Taranaki Show would prove equal to anything in the Dominion. The country members of the society have shown what can be done. It is now up to the townspeople to lend a hand, and with such a combination almost anything is possible. We hope townspeople will ponder the matter and not wait to be asked next year but come forward and do their share for a fixture which, after all, caters for and appeals to urban residents as much as it does to country settlers.
