GERMAH PRESIDENT.

ENTRY INTO BERLIN, TRIUMPHANT WELCOME. ’PLANES DROP FLOWERS. By Telegraph—Pres* Assn.- -Copyright Received May 12, 9.10 p.m. Berlin, May 11. President Hindenburg, prior to his departure from Hanover for Berlin to assume the Presidency, addressed a large gathering, when he earnestly pleaded for unity. He said he would bear in mind the poor and distressed, and would try to act as a peacemaker. He was given an enthusiastic send-off, •and received a triumphant welcome upon his formal entry into Berlin. When tlie train reached the gaily beflowered suburban station of Heerstiasse, nine aeroplanes were hovering overhead, dropping flowers. The President, who was wearing a top hat and frock coat, was welcomed by the Chancellor (Dr. Luther), the chief burgo* master of Berlin, and other notables, with whom he shook hands silently after the presentation of a bouquet by Dr. Luther's young daughter. President Hindenburg left on a fivemile route to the Chancellor’s Palace, the road throughout being lined with cheering crowds, whose salutations Hindenburg acknowledged. Nationalist organisations were most prominent, as the Republicans adhered to their earlier boycott decision. Throughout the drive Hindenburg exhibited the air of an old man well pleased with the cordiality of his reception. At the conclusion of the drive the crowds dispersed quietly, the Monarchists marching off singing patriotic songs. The President takes the bath to - morrow.
