HARBOUR BOARD MEETS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Waitara, May 11. The first monthly meeting of the Harbour Board as at present constituted was held on Friday evening. Prior to the election of a chairman, Mr. Hine took the opportunity of congratulating the members re-elected to the board, and extended a welcome to Mr. G. A. Xraustad, the new member. Mr. Spurdie nominated Mr. Jas. Hine as chairman, and briefly referred to the good work Mr. Hine had done in the past. Mr. Jensen seconded. Mr. Lucas nominated Captain Jensen, who declined nomination owing to the fact that he would probably be away for some time in the future. Mr. Hine was elected, and briefly returned thanks. He said no doubt differences of opinion would arise, but he hoped these differences, if they did occur, would be to the board’s meetings, and not carried outside. Mr. Gaustad returned thanks for Ins welcome. He had no policy other than progress in the interests of the district. Mr. Hine then moved the following motion, which was carried unanimously: “That this board desires to place on record its high appreciation of the long and valuable services rendered to this port and district by Mr. A. W. Ogle.” The motion was carried. The following appointments were made: Theasurer, Mr. W. Nosworthy; works committee, Messrs. Nosworthy, Jensen, Lucas and the chairman, ex officio; valuation committee, Messrs. Spurdie. Lucas and the chairman. An application from Mr. F. J. Carter, of Rangataua, for the lease of a beach section was granted. Mr. G.. Roberts’ previous application for a remission of rent for twelve months was brought forward by the chairman, who stated that the land in question would be of very little use until drained and cleaned.—No action was taken. 1 The secretary reported that this year’s election "expenses amounted to £45 17s 9d, a decrease of £l2 3s (id on the previous election.
