DELUGE OF RAIN.

AUSTRALIA SUFFERS, FARM LANDS FLOODED. WIDESPREAD DAMAGE. By Telegraph.—Preus Assn.—-Copyright. Received May 11, 8.55 p.m. Sydney, May 11. The weather was fine throughout the day, but everywhere there are signs of yesterday’s severe drenching. The outlook is now brighter.

The flood waters in the lower suburban areas have mostly drained off. These included the Warwick Farm and Randwick racecourses. Considerable general damage was done, chiefly in the shape of washaways and roof leakages. One advantage is that the city’s water supply, which had been causing anxiety, is now assured for two years. Reports from the country show that the deluge was chiefly confined to the coast and was lighter inland. Some south coast falls ranged from 12 to 21 inches. At Dapto many families were flooded out and some had to be rescued. Along the Nepean and Shoalhaven Rivers wide areas of country were submerged. The crops suffered and a number of cattle were drowned.

Traffic on the south coast railway is badly delayed by washaways. Owing to the rain several of the tram services were interrupted by flood waters, but no serious damage is reported. Landslides occurred in some parts. A good deal of damage was done to the roads, and many residences were flooded to a considerable depth. The inter-State telegraph services were badly affected.
