PLOTS FOR HIGH SCHOOL. RAILWAY LAND SOUGHT. Representing the Board of Governors of the New Plymouth High Schools, a depu- jwtat ion consisting of Messrs. A. E. Washer (chairman of the farm committee), L. A. Nolan (member of the farm committee) and W. H. Moyes (principal of the boys’ school) waited on the Minister for Railways (the Hon. J. G. Coates) at New Plymouth last night, with a request that he should favourably consider/ the leasing, to the board for a peppercorn rental of part of a property on the Avenue Road recently acquired by the Railway Department. The property, about 50 acres in area, was purchased by the department for railwaymen’s houses, and it is the aim of- the board to secure a portion at a peppercorn rental for say seven years, and to use it for agricultural experimental work for the pupils of the Boys’ High School. Mr. Moyes. explained that all the level ground at the school would soon- be occupied and the large number of boys (between 50 and 70) who would be taking the agriculture course next year, required more land than would be available. "I wish to convey to the people,” saic Jlr. Coates, ‘‘that railway land is not GovThe railway is in; a comif this offer is not an not .consider it. -Jp Minis-
