A BOY KILLED.

FALL FROM A HORSE. FOUND LYING IN DRAIN. ACCIDENT ON URUTI ROAD. An accident involving the death of a ten-year-old boy named Norman Jonas occurred on the Uruti Road about one mile from the township, yestejjday afternoon. The boy, who was working for Mr. E. A. Jone*, was engaged. on horse-back in bringing in the cows for milking. The accident was not seen by anyone, but it appears that the horse stumbled, the boy being thrown into a large drain,, with a depth of. two feet of water, and the horse fell on top of him. A doctor was summoned from Waitara, but life was extinct. It is thought that the boy wa* knocked senseless by the fall and was smothered by the water in the drain.

The boy is a son of .Mr. Louis Jones, of Te Kiri, near Opunake. An inquest before a justice of the peace and a jury will be held at Uruti at 4 p.m. to-day. The funeral take* place tomorrow. -
