NELLIE BRAMLEY.
FINAL APPEARANCE. The appeal t'iiat Miss Nellie Bramley and her talented company has made to the hearts of ’ the people of New Plymouth was strikingly illustrated last night, when, despite the heavy thunderstorm' which raged at theatre-going time, the Empire Theatre was crowded on the occasion of t'he close of (he New Plymouth season of three nights. The' piece . staged was that powerful drama "The Third Degree,” and as Mrs. Howard Jeffries, Jnr., Nellie Bramley had a part eminently suited for the display o-f her histrionic abilities -aind her intense fervour as she rose to the defence of her husba.nd ..(Geo. Hewlett), who had been imprisoned, on a confession obtained by third degree methods, pf shooting his friend. The splendid acting field the audience spellbound, and Miss Bramley carried them with her from triumph to triumph as she first gained to her side the family lawyer, a part admirably portrayed by Guy Hastings, then her young mother-in-law (Sylvia McNair), and finally her irascible and pompous father-in-law (Arthur Connell), who had cast his’-sOn off because of his step in marrying a woman lower down on the social scale. Geo. Bryant, as Captain Clinton, admirably portrayed the methods of tlic New York police, while the ma or parts were also well filled.
