MEN LEAVE SHIP.
DELAY AT BRISBANE. VACANCIES NOT FILLED. Ry Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Brisbane, Dec. 19. When the steamer Canberra arrived ten members of the crow, who gave the requisite notice, left the ship. Owing to difficulty in filling the vacancies the departure of the vessel had to be postponed. The trouble is a continuation of the dispute which delayed the vessel at Sydney. The secretary of the local branch of the Seamen’s Union sent a letter to the manager of the Shipping Company, stating that the men who left the ven-. s;«l were- dissatisfied at the non-payment of claims made by them. If tlie claims were met unconditionally the men would be quite prepared to return to the ship. The secretary added that the mon will not fill the vacancies owing to the above dispute. He considers the matter should be amicably settled at a conference.
