END OF THE YEAR.

FRAN K.LEY ROAD SCHOOL. The breaking-up ceremony of the Fi’ankley Road School was held in the gymnasium hall of the school yesterday, the function taking the form of a school concert, in which action songs played a prominent part, followed by brief addresses and the presentation of the prizes. Afternoon tea was then dispensed by the parents of the children, and the afternoon terminated in a little dance for the children. A good deal of time and attention had been given to the training of the children by Miss Simpson, their mistress. Mrs. Johns (who acted as pianist) and Mr. Kidson (probationer), and the result was ample compensation for their efforts.

The headmaster of the school (Mr. A. V. Sims), who has been absent from school for three months on sick leave, was well enough to attejad the function. The annual report on the school work, which was prepared by Mr. Sims, referred to the successful year which the school had again experienced. The attendance, it was stated, had been remarkably good, as was evidenced by the large number of pupils who had full attendance reedyds. Reference was also made to the retirement in September of the headmaster_ on three months sick leave. The position of headmaster had since that time been capably filled by. Mr. Thomas* late headmaster of the Eltham. School. Before presenting the prizes Mr. IL Dempisey impressed upon the ehiidien the importance of being industrious and upright, and of talking: advantage of the fine .educational facilities - offered them.
