Mr. H, JI. OSTLER CHOSEN.’. The appoifitriieht is announced of Mr. Henry Hubert Ostler, of the law firm of Jackson, Russel], Tunks and Ostler, of Auckland, to the Supreme Court Bench, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of the late Sir John Salmond. He will assume duty on February 1, 1925/ Mr. Justice Ostler was born in the Mackenzie Country. Canterbury, in 1876, and is a son of Mr. . 11. Ostler, a runholder there. At the age of, nine years he was sent to Christ’s Hospital, London. , He returnea to New Zealand in 1892. and for ‘eight years was fanning'in* the Levin district. In 1900, he went to Victoria College; where he took his law degree. He was associate to tlie Chief/Justice (Sir Robert Stout) from 1903 t0'1907, and. for three 'y’ears siibsequeiitly lie was editor of the New Zealand Law Reports, ; practising as a barrister in Wellington. In 1910. he was offered the appointment of . C.ToxVn' Solicitoi] and Crown Prosecutor by the' late Sir John who had been appointed Solicitor-General. He held that position until 1915$ when he joined , the firm of Jgoksdn. Rusnell, Tunks and Ostler, of Auckland, where he has hornpractising since. 1 . . • ,
