As a sequel to . the issue of bogus £2O- notes at the Randwick races on October 27, various terms of imprisonment were to-day imposed on the perpetrators.

James Tonkins, a printer, was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment, and William Jacobsen, a photographer, to four years’ imprisonment for forgery, while Joseph an engineer, was sentenced to eighteen months’ imprisonment for uttering the notes, of which £3OOO worth were found in the men’s possession.

The notes were dropped in a loose bundle at Randwick when detectives rushed the men in the bar after the first race. . The police subsequently visited a number of houses and found a complete note-printing plant, besides a large quantity of chemicals and paper. The notes were a good, imitation of the real thing.
