The rabbit-proof gate in the Tangarakau Gorge is now being erected. The condition of the New PlymouthTe Kuiti road and the weather in that locality are “fair,” according to a report issued by the Taranaki Automobile Association last night. The last of the quarterly sessions for 1924 of the Supreme Court in Taranaki was brought to a close yesterday, the session having lasted just on a fortnight. Many vessels were unable to leave Wellington and the Wahine was tossing about for an hour before she was able to berth.

The three trips a day made by the electric bus to th e Frankley Road School are much appreciated by the settlers of the district, who are already beginning to pride themselves on being in a suburb of New Plymouth, stated a resident to ft Daily News reporter yesterday. Advice to farmers to reduce their mortgages when ‘ their finances improved was given by Mr. A. T. Kenrick, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Inglewsod, when speaking at the opening of the Inglewood County Council’s new offices yesterday. Referring to the high prices ruling for wool, he expressed th e hope that farmers would use any surplus money at' the end of the season in reducing their mortgages and so putting themselves in a more satisfactory position. This, he considered, preferable to purchasing an expensive motor-car which would cost money to run.

A welcome adjunct to‘ the’ public library in New Plymouth is a room which hag recently been set aside for directories, timetables and magazines. All round benefits will accrue by this innovation, for not only will it' fill a long felt want but extraspace in the- reading room will be available now that the magazine tables have been removed. Th e room, which is now open to the public, is that in which the newspaper files were previously stored, the first on the right when entering the building. The newspaper files are now* transferred to that portion of the building recently used ’-as- the ladies’ re§t rooms. The bazaar held in the Midhirst Anglican Church Hall last Thursday was a huge success, and though the weather was not all that could ,be desired a large, number attended, with' the result that the stallholders '■ had a very busy afternoon and very little was left unsold. The fun* tion was opened by the vicar, who congratulated the ladies of the guild on their efforts and splendid display. Various competitions were h’ejd and the winners of the raffles were: Cushion, Miss Fugle; embroidered runner, Mrs, McTvbr; table centre, Mr. Carter.
