NEW PLYMOUTH SITTING, CIVIL CASES. . The weekly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at New Plymouth was held yesterday, Mr. A. AL Alowlem, S.M., presiding. Mace and A. \y. W. Mace v. Tko Tamaki, £5 13s 5d (£2 5s 6d); A. S. Brooker v. F. H. P. Rogers, £2 14s 3d ( £2 3s fid) ; Whites Ltd. v. F. H. P. Rogers. £3 Gs lid ( £1 3s fid); R. F. Price v. F. H. P. At the suit of A. Richards, Tommy Hari, who did not appear, was ordered 'to pay €l2 6s and costs £l2 63 forthwith. in default 13 days’ imprisonment, the warranit to be suspended for a month after the date of service of the order.

L. Smith, who did not appear. was ordered to pay R. Merrie £4 2s 6d forthwith, in default five days’ imprisonment. MILITARY D IDF AULT ERS. Robert Horace Giddy, a corporal in the Huirangi Troop of the 2nd Mounted Rifles, was fined £'l, costs 7s. for failing to attend drill. In giving evidence Sergeant-Major Stevens said Giddy had only attended two parades out oFsix. Clement Hili pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to attend parades of the A Company, First Battalion, Taranaki Regiment. Evidence was produced to the effect that Hill had not attended the parades since about August. Since October he had been living outside the specified area. Asked why he had not attended the parades, Hill said he objected to drill, and he saw no reason why he should attend. The Magistrate remarked that the sooner defendant changed his ideas the better. Hill was fined £1 with costs 7s. BREACH OF RAILWAY BY-LAW'S. (For travelling from Marton to Thorndon by train without paying the proper fare for a child over three years of age, Alice Kathleen McLean was fined 10s and ordered to pay 9s 2d, the cost of ‘the fare, and court costs 7s. Accused, who pleaded guilty to the offence, said she now realised the mistake she had made in not giving the age of the child at the time. TGWED BY A MOTOR LORRY. Jack Earley, who pleaded guilty to a charge of allowing the bicycle he was riding to be towed .by a motor lorry, was fined 10s with costs 7s. Earley, who was about 16 years of age, said he was directing the lorry driver, and he did not have his hand on the vehicle fdr more than about ten yards. Inspector Blyde, of the New Plymouth Borough Council, gave evidence* that when he. interviewed 'the driver of the lorry, the man said he did not >know the lx>y was there. The Magistrate remarked on the very dangerous practice and imposed the fine as stated.
